6 Reasons Why You Should Totally Own Your Weirdness

We live in such an over judgemental world that any trait or habit that isn't deemed as 'normal' is automatically perceived as obscure, strange or weird. You may like your own space and refrain from hanging out in groups or perhaps enjoy a subculture that your friends and family view as 'not the norm', which is sad that uniqueness is often seen this way.

So, how do you step into your real self? We share with you seven reasons why you shouldn't be afraid to be you and ultimately own your 'weirdness'.

1. Be honest with yourself.

If you like watching documentaries about strange cults or paranormal activities then by all means do so. The people that truly matter will take listen and those that look at you sideways simply aren't worth your time.

2. Don't resist.

Every inch of you has been specially crafted (sorry to sound like a beer advert) for you to be you. I can not stress enough how important it is to therefore be accepting of yourself, even the traits you and others may deem as different.

3. Be memorable.

Imagine watching the same show, day in day out, on repeat for the next 6 months - eek. That's pretty much what it feels like to live in a society of people that very rarely show their dissimilarities. Learning to embrace your weirdness means your uniqueness will shine through and people will remember and gravitate to you.

4. 'The Greats' all had quirks.

Super stars such as Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga, Prince, Liza Minnelli have all proved that being eccentric breeds art. If you work in the creative field then showing your weirdness should be your top priority. This will set you apart from the rest and give you some kudos for just being you.

5. Be memorable.

Those little traits that people identify you with; like, your unusual laugh, your fascination with baby pigs or your over extended passion for cheese can all develop into bigger things, possibly even a business that only someone as passionate as you could run. Perhaps a new cheese dispensary or baby pig petting zoo for children - who knows. Learn your quirks and turn them into real life power.

6. Being real is badass

Call yourself a badass or realist? Well if you really are then there should be no shame in being the 'real' version of yourself. Being authentic is so gratifying and the world needs more authentic people and honest role models. Life is truly about accepting ourselves and others and the more authentic you are, the better for all.
